Patrick Troughton by his son - Michael Troughton - Alex shewan - 19/11/2011 16:16:53
This much anticipated biography of Patrick Troughton is a candid, revealing and entertaining account of this much loved and highly talented actor. The book begins by giving a fascinating insight into Patrick's childhood and early life. Of particular interest to me was the opportunity to learn about Patrick's heroism during the Second World War. Michael Troughton writes with honesty about his father's family and professional life, showing us the complexity of Patrick's character with warmth and affection. The book is filled with both humourous and touching anecdotes which are enhanced by a beautiful collection of photographs. This is an entertaining and thought-provoking book which is a "must-read" for anyone with an interest in Patrick Troughton.

If you are a fan of Doctor who or just a fan of Biographies this is the book for you. It starts from his fathers early days to life during the war to his great acting career. Right up to his untimely Death. Michael the Author tells of his life growing up with DR WHO as his father and let's out the secret that Pat tried to keep secret from his mother and the public. From reading the first page I found it difficult to put this book down I recommend this book to everybody in fact it would make the ideal Christmas present and to give it a score out of 10 it would have to be 20. I must also thank the author for writing this book . You did a great job Michael Troughton Thank You

The biography of a truly magical actor - stephen milverton - 30/11/2011 10:33:59
Patrick Troughton, like Alec Guinness, was a master of the art of characterization. Anyone who has ever watched Patrick and marvelled at how one man could be so many different men, all totally convincing and compelling and completely opposite from the last, will find this fascinating and candid book unputdownable.

Patrick Troughton - Joanna Troughton - 01/12/2011 08:25:22
A carefully researched and thoughtful biography of Dad's life. Only Michael perhaps, of all Dad's children, could have written such an even handed book. Even I hadn't quite realised what a very ambitious and driven actor Dad was.

A Wonderful Book - Mark Cockram - 22/12/2011 13:36:49
A superbly written book, with plenty of interesting anecdotes. A very fair account of the life of a very talented and complex person.

Not bad - Rodney - 23/01/2012 09:24:34
An interesting book albeit one that is light on the detailed analysis of Troughton's non-Doctor Who life and career . It provides an interesting look at the early years of television (of which Pat was a pioneer, being one of the first actors to conquer this new medium). The stories about his childhood and war years are peppered with wonderful pictures and extracts from his personal letters. The Who years are covered extensively through the second half of the book (his post-Who career being barely touched on except for his three subsequent Who appearances and a few films). For me, the biggest shock was that he had two families on the go at the one time- each with three kids and his first wife was fine with it!! Then he starts up a THIRD (only after finally divorcing his first wife). You really get the impression that he was a complex and difficult man to know at times. I personally loved the stories of his early years and his heroics during the war. Most disappointing is the lack of anecdotes from his other children- an odd phrase here and there are all we get. The book could have been so much more. Also, there were far too many spelling and grammatical errors for my liking showing a lack of proof-reading. As I said, an entertaining read, if not overly thorough.

Well written read - IainR - 16/12/2011 17:41:58
A fascinating and well written biography which has been worth the long wait for a book about Pat. Such a shame that such good writing has been let down by exceptionally poor proof reading!
